If you know the early signs of skin cancer, it can be detected at an early stage and treated without use of aggressive treatments with severe side effects. Many times the symptoms are clearly visible on the skin. A proper diagnosis of a skin cancer can only be made by a dermatologist.

Signs of skin cancer can appear on the legs or top of arms and hands, even on face and hands. If you see any mole on the skin, watch out for skin growth and the following properties of mole or bump or skin freckles.

1. Asymmetry
2. Border
3. Color
4. Diameter
5. Elevation

Due to these freckles or moles, skin turns multi colored. You could observe different shades of black or brown color and that sounds alarm for something wrong with the skin.

Remember to keep an eye on a small growth or a sore that bleeds, heals and then reopens, a change in an existing mole or the development of a new, irregular mole.

People with fair complexion and light blond hair are more prone to Skin Cancer. Cells damaged by the sun multiply and take over the surface with blemishes, moles, and eventually tumors. Change in surface color should be noted.

Three Types of Cancer and their Signs

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)

• Can cause disfigurement mainly if located on the face
• Common on areas that are exposed to the sun like – head or neck
• Tumors might develop on the forearms and the back of the hands

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)

• Bumps or red scaly patches located on the face
• It limits to around the face, mouth, ears and lips
• Most dangerous for of cancer accounting for over 75% of skin cancer deaths.

Melanoma

• Mole that changes in shape, size or color
• Mole that oozes or bleeds
• Mole that is swollen, tender or lumpy

Unfortunately people fail to spot the signs of skin cancer. If they are found out, the most cases can be successfully treated. Always look for any moles that change shape or color, become larger itchy or inflamed and those that ooze or bleed. When you see anything abnormal, consult your doctor as soon as possible.
