Cellulitis

Erysipelas

• A bacterial infection that occurs in the top layers of the skin.
• Burns are very painful.
• The skin becomes red, swollen and you can see a clear border between normal and infected skin.

Folliculitis

• An infection in the hair follicle – pretty small structure.
• Infection looks like a group of small little red bumps could have little pus.
• Usually heals without scarring.

Hot Tub Folliculitis

• An infection of the hair follicles caused by the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
• Bacteria is commonly found in contaminated whirlpools, hot tubs, physiotherapy pools.
• Children tend to get hot tub folliculitis more.

Furuncle

• An infection of the hair follicle
• If not treated early, a furuncle can become an abscess and needs to be drained.

Carbuncle

• A collection of multiple infected hair follicles.
• Infections are densely packed together.

Impetigo

• A bacterial infection of the top layer of the skin – epidermis.
• You can see a honey-colored crust.
• Treatment could be a topical antibiotic.

Erythrasma

• A bacterial skin infection that occurs in areas where skin touches skin, like between toes, in armpits, or groin.
• If you have a fungal infection that isn’t getting cured with an anti-fungal treatment, it could be erythrasma.
• See your doctor because erythrasma is easily treated with the proper antibiotics.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa

• A bacterial infection of certain sweat glands found in the armpits, groin, buttocks, scalp, and under the female breast.
• People don’t get hidradenitis until after puberty.
